#44 Being anything but proud of homeschooling
Especially in front of your kids.
Everyone likes to fit in, and by homeschooling, we don't always fit in.  I know that more than once, I've had a new acquaintance distance herself from me when she found out that we homeschool.  Because of that, and the tedious "where do you get the books?" kind of questions, I don't always want to tell people that we homeschool. But if my kids are with me, and the topic comes up, I sit up straight, put on a big smile, and say proudly "We homeschool."  I do this for two reasons, one is that I believe homeschooling is a valid choice, and because I don't want my kids to ever get the impression that there is something wrong with the way they are being educated.

It seems to be working-- my kids LOVE to tell people they are homeschooled.
