Description
Costumed interpreters tell of the real life relationship of the Gibbs family and Cloud Man’s band of Dakota living in the mid 1800’s. During this hands-on tour, families will visit the soddy, bark lodge, teepee, and farm animals, and learn about wool from sheep to shawl (shearing, carding, washing, spinning, weaving).
Children will make and enjoy a traditional Dakotah treat of maple syrup sprinkled on "snow" (crushed ice).
Note: Parents and siblings under the age of 2 may participate in the making and enjoying of this treat for an additional $1.50/participant to cover the cost of supplies.
Please bring a picnic lunch to enjoy. We will picnic together plus outdoor play at the picnic tables and open lawn after our tour.
Additional tours this morning:
- Dakotah Life (Corn Husk Doll) for ages 6 to 9 (1st to 3rd grade)
- Pioneer Life (Candle Dipping) for ages 9 to 12 (4th to 6th grade)
If you have children in multiple groups, you may either choose to bring your entire family along on the one tour that interests you most, or you may split your family between tours. The organizer requests that you designate another parent who will be responsible for the child/ren you are not accompanying.
