Description
Join Gale Woods Farmers in a hike to the sugar bush where you will tap trees, taste sap and find out how it goes from sap to syrup at the sugar shack. After our hike to the sugarbush, we will take maple syrup and turn it to maple candy. The day will end with caring for the piglets, chicks, sheep and/or laying hens.
This program runs concurrently with the Farm Discovery class for ages 2 through 6,
- Parents are invited to participate in the class as educators and chaperones, but are not required to do so.
- Parents may expect to be asked to assist the Farm Educators.
- Both groups will be together during food preparation, crafts, hikes, and outdoor activities.
- The groups will separate for work in the barn where the older children will engage in more advanced animal care and farm chore activities.
- Older children who do not wish to separate from their parents and younger siblings are welcome in the group for younger children, but younger children may not join the group for older children.
There is a minimum of 8 children (or $64) for this program to be held. If there is insufficient enrollment, the class may be merged with the Farm Discovery class for ages 2 through 6, which means that animal care and farm chore tasks will be appropriate for that age group. Participants will be informed if this happens and given the option of canceling their registration if they prefer. Maximum class size is 12 children.
