Description
Discover the magical effect of weave while creating your very own dragonner's hooded cloak! Learn how transfer a pattern from paper to cloth. Discover the intricacies of stitching while applying the binding spell of seam and backtack and bounding spell of hem.
This class is limited to just 6 participants! If more than 6 dragoneers are interested in constructing a cloak, one of the other parents will contact our instructor, Lisa Powers, to set up another session. Lisa has requested that 1 adult who knows how to sew remain and assist, and Nic will do that for the first session (since she once made a living sewing).
This is a 3 to 3½ hour workshop. There will be a short break about half way through — please pack a light non-messy snack and a water bottle to re-energize your child.
Cost per child/student: $35 plus materials
Cost of pattern: We will be using the pattern at www.janeausten.co.uk/sew-a-walking-cloak/. Lisa has asked that we arrive with a template created from patterning fabric or cheap paper. 1 pattern for every 2 students should be sufficient.
Cost of fabric: varies with material chosen. You will need 4 yards of 60" fabric and matching thread — plus one 9x12 felt swatch (about 35¢). You'll also need a fastener. Velcro will work, or a button, or a clasp. I'm hoping that we'll make a magical broach at the Mineralogy workshop in class in February, but you'll need something to use until then.
Crafty Planet discount: 15% discount on fabric. Just tell them that you need the class discount.
