"I made you a kite, so you would have to look up." — Dan Zadra
"We believe, passionately, that children and adults can be taught to read and comprehend.
We believe that sensory-cognitive factors are the first dominoes in language and literacy skills.
We believe that imagery is the primary sensory-cognitive domino in language and literacy development." — Nanci Bell
The Right Environment
The consistent quality of our instruction is complemented by our respect for each individual and our deep appreciation of the opportunity to aid a student in realizing his or her unique gifts and potential. Every aspect of our interaction with students is oriented toward enhancing their self-confidence and developing trust in their ability to think, reason, and communicate.
Students' answers are met with praise to encourage their efforts followed by Socratic questioning to build independence.
Structure of sessions keeps students engaged and excited about learning.
Students are motivated by a variety of rewards including:
- Immediate and positive reinforcement
- Student recognition shared with others
- Prizes earned throughout sessions
- WOW Stars to announce a student's success with a specific task
- Milestone Celebrations to honor student accomplishments during instruction
- "Hooray for You" celebrations to congratulate students on their achievements during their time at Lindamood-Bell
Learning Center Results
Our continued success is due to our unique approach: we accurately assess individual needs, provide research-validated sensory-cognitive instruction, and create an environment that is safe, positive, and focused.
Each year we serve a wide range of students with decoding and comprehension difficulties. Our Research division compiles data from the nationally-standardized assessments administered with each student at our Learning Centers.
Lindamood-Bell is More Than Research-Based, We Are Research-Validated.
"I want to make a quick distinction between research-based and research-validated because it's an important distinction. It's easier to be research-based, because research-based simply means you read the research and you imbed that research in what you are developing. What is more challenging is to be what is called research-validated, which means you want to see programs that have evidence of effectiveness. You want to know that the stuff works." — The Honorable Robert Pasternack, Ph.D., Former Assistant Secretary, US Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, Speaking at the 2011 Lindamood-Bell International Conference
