Any member of the DIY Club can propose, initiate and/or organize an adventure, a workshop or a collaboration.
About DIY
DIY is a global community of creative kids who are passionate about learning new skills and meeting others that share our passion. DIY clubs are the best way to make this happen because they allow us to meet in the real world to collaborate on epic projects, take adventures, host workshops, and practice skills together.
DIY offers an alternative to traditional scouting that is kid-driven with fewer rules and fewer expenses — in fact, participation can be entirely free. There are no dues to a national organization and no uniforms to buy. You can purchase embroidered skill patches, but you can also just earn digital skill patches for no cost.
DIY’s mission is to help members achieve creative autonomy, so the DIY app and website were designed to be used by members without the help of adults. DIY clubs are intended to be enjoyed the same way. If someone can’t really participate in a club independent of an adult, then they’re probably too young. DIY thinks 8 years old is the minimum and that 10 is the ideal starting age. Of course, there is no absolute rule!
DIY Adventures
Adventures are outings into nature. This could be as simple as a day hike or as ambitious as a campout in the wilderness. Adventures are a great opportunity to practice the DIY’s outdoor Skills like Forager, Botanist, Cartographer, Camper, Shelter Builder, Tracker, and Pioneer. Club members might feel outside of their comfort zone on an Adventure, that’s how you’ll know it’s a good one!
DIY Workshops
Workshops are intended to help members quickly level up a new skill. The best workshops involve a skill expert – ideally an old and wise one – handing down what they know to our new generation. You can host this mentor in your space or visit them where they work or practice their skill. Ideally during the workshop club members will have the opportunity to practice the skill themselves.
DIY Collaborations
Collaborations happen when club members work together to tackle epic projects. An organizer help your club set goals for collaborations and helps reduce friction by coordination of tools, materials, and space.
DIY Accounts
Every member should set up an online account on the DIY website. Members upload their own projects to DIY.
