Free "History of Science" Lesson Plans for 6-12 gr.
Written for teachers, these are interdisciplinary lesson plans. Some consist of only one or two activities, while others could fill a semester or more. The lessons I've read are clear, fully explained, and include extensive bibliographies. Most are written with the expectation that students will be working in a group. They could a be a valuable resource for a homeschool science club.

The Library of Congress has helpfully linked primary sources, lesson plans, activities and even professional development for teachers on this page. From here, you can find a wealth of lesson plans, primarily relating to American History, but literature and culture are also well represented. The lesson plans are built around primary sources-- letters, interviews, and other documents from the time in question. They are meaty, in depth lessons, from what I've seen. Encyclopedia Smithsonian: Art to Zoology
The Smithsonian has linked to a broad range of materials here, including history, science, art and culture. A good first source for material or information. Some topics include lesson plans, and all are fully referenced. The entries are aimed at adults, but most topics are appropriate for children. It is all available for free.

Time Team America
This is the companion site for the PBS series Time Team America. Time Team America shows archeologists on real digs in the US, and the website includes background information both about individual digs and the field of archeology more generally. Abraham Lincoln's Crossroads
A free, interactive "game" where kids listen to a virtual Lincoln describing pivotal moments in his life, and then have the opportunity to guess which choice Lincoln made. An interesting presentation of a lot information about Lincoln's life and times. Appropriate for middle school level and beyond.

Homeschool Days at Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center
Homeschool programs will be offered February 27-March 7, 2010, at Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center. The homeschool ticket is good for admission to both museums throughout the entire date range. In addition, optional hands-on programs and guided tours are available for students and their families. All programs address Virginia and United States standards of learning for history and social studies.
